Yezidi children liberated from IS with the Yezidi activist Abu Shuja

Shingal – The Yezidi network for the liberation of women and children has once again been successful. The network succeeded today in freeing two Yezidi children who had been abducted by the terrorist militia Islamic State over a year a ago. Both children were in good health, activists announced. The siblings were held captive for 506 days by IS terrorists. Details of the liberation have not been disclosed for security reasons.

On August 3, 2014 IS terrorists stormed the siblings´ village in Shingal and abducted them. In total, up to 7,000 Yezidis, most of whom are women and children, were abducted by the terrorists who subsequently forced them into slavery.

The IS described its campaign as the “rebirth of Islamic slavery reviving an old Islamic tradition”. Women and children were distributed as “spoils of war” among the jihadists and later sold at specially erected slave markets in Syria and Iraq. Liberated women and children report systematic rape, even underage children are subjected to sexual abuse.

The UN Human Rights Commission referred to the terrorist group´s atrocities committed against the Yezidi minority as a potential genocide, stating that the IS terrorists´ objective was to “destroy the Yezidis as a group”.
