Shingal – Security forces discovered today another mass grave in Shingal region located in northern Iraq. The mass grave believed to contain the remains of around 40 Yezidi men was discovered near Til Benat town in the south of Shingal city. Initial indications suggest that the victims had been shot with their hands bound.

At the beginning of August 2014, the terrorist militia Islamic State overran the Yezidi minority´s major settlement area, committing atrocities against the civilian population which the UN referred to as a potential genocide. The Peshmerga soldiers of the Kurdish regional government who were responsible for the security fled from the region and abandoned the civilians to their fate.

According to UN figures, the IS terrorists killed around 5,000 Yezidis and abducted up to 7,000 women and children who were enslaved and are now exposed to sexual violence on a daily basis.

About five mass graves with hundreds of victims have been discovered since the liberation of the town in the south of the region. Over 15 had been discovered in the north and east before by resistance  fighters.
