Ezidi HPŞ fighters on Mount Shingal

Shingal. The terrorist militia ISIS is reported to have mounted an attack on anti-ISIS fighters in Shingal region in northern Iraq. Shortly after midnight ISIS terrorists began to shell resistance fighters´ positions and then advanced with armoured and armed vehicles. The clashes intensified during the day. Direct clashes erupted on several fronts, resulting in the killing of over 25 terrorists and wounding of 15 others.

Near Bara, which located in the north-west of Shingal mountains and not far from the Syrian-Iraqi border, Ezidi HPS (Shingal´s Protection Force) fighters under the command of Kheri fought hours of clashes with ISIS. The terrorist organization is apparently trying to retake the supply line that leads from Shingal city to Syria. Three Ezidi fighters, one from Siba Sheikh Kidir and two from Tel Kasab died as the result of those clashes.

In Shingal city, units of the PKK and its affiliate YBS killed one ISIS terrorist in Hay Nasir district, their leadership announced in a statement. A fierce house-to-house fight backed by coalition war planes has been taken place there for months.

More attacks were carried out at night on positions of the Peshmerga which managed to repulse them and kill a number of terrorists. Two Peshmerga fighters were killed, seven others were injured according to a commander.

A HPS fighter told ezidiPress that the situation was under control but clashes would sporadically erupt again. The recent attacks were repulsed, however, they would brace themselves for more skirmishes at night.

In a large-scale campaign of destruction the terrorist militia overran the major settlement area of the Ezidi minority in August 2014 and carried out a massacre against the civilian population. Over 5,000 Ezidis, mostly young men and elders were killed on the spot. Up to 7,000 women, girls and children were abducted and are subjected to systematic rape while being held captive. Around 430,000 Ezidis and thus every second Ezidi worldwide is on the run.  Therefore, the UN Human Rights Commission accused ISIS of genocide.
