The US Army’s elite counter-terrorism unit Delta Force launched a raid into Syria on Friday, killing a top ISIS leader and capturing his wife, according to The Guardian.

The special forces´ target was a location in eastern Syria where an ISIS leader called Abu Sayyaf was believed to be hiding. Sayyaf was killed on site as the forces attacked. His wife Umm Sayyaf, also a member of ISIS, was captured by the special forces. Moreover, a young Ezidi woman who was apparently being held captive as a slave by Sayyaf and his wife was freed as the result of the raid.

The operation was launched from inside Iraq with the approval of the White House. Up to 7,000 Ezidis were kidnapped by ISIS from Shingal region in northern Iraq in August last year, most of whom are women and children who are subjected to systematic rape.
